The 2012 SKILL! Programme commenced on Tuesday 13th March with an exciting, interactive workshop hosted by leading business information provider Incisive Media, at their offices in the heart of London’s West End. Produced in association with our seven corporate partners – including new partners Milbank and Oriel Securities – the workshop was attended by 35 students from schools in East London.
Facilitated by young social entrepreneur Matt Kepple, the workshop helped students to enhance their communication, presentation and interpersonal skills through a series of enterprise-focused activities. The day kicked-off with an insightful introduction from the sales team at Incisive Media, talking about their work and introducing students to a range of new career possibilities. Students then worked in small teams, supported by mentors from our corporate partners, to create enterprising ideas and develop short pitches of their ideas using techniques and training delivered by ex-ITN newsreader Katie Ledger.
Our hosts, Incisive Media, made their state-of-the-art studio facilities available for our pitching session, so students could present their ideas to the panel in front of the cameras! The panel of entrepreneurs and experts included:
Tim Weller Founder & Group CEO, Incisive Media
Sarah McVittie Founder & CEO, Dressipi.com
Liana Dinghile Group Strategy Director EMEA, Siegel + Gale
The day concluded with an inspiring keynote speech from Rich Martell, the 22-year-old founder and CEO of Floxx. Rich entertained the students with the story of how he created Floxx, a location-based social network that lets people share what is going on around them, whilst studying at university.
