The SKILL! Programme continued in November, with the fourth of five workshops in 2011; our 13th workshop since launching in 2008. The November session was attended by over 70 students from five schools across London and took place at the offices of international law firm Allen & Overy, in the City of London. Working with our corporate partners, which include some of the world’s leading professional services firms and financial services groups, we created an inspiring workshop for students. They had an opportunity to collaborate in teams, devising enterprising ideas and learning fundamental skills that employers are now looking for.
Our speakers included facilitators Matt Kepple and Katie Ledger, with an inspiring keynote speech from entrepreneur Sam Barnett, the founder and CEO of online advertising technology provider Struq. Students were also given the opportunity to present ideas to a panel of entrepreneurs from a diverse range of sectors, including finance, renewable energy and talent management. Our panellists were:
- Simon Bragg – Founder & Chief Executive, Oriel Securities
- Derry Newman – Chief Executive, Solarcentury
- Richard Tyrie – Founder, GoodPeople
- Harry Upcott – Partner, Allen & Overy
Students were also inspired by Sam Barnett’s story of entrepreneurial success. He shared the story of starting Struq in 2008, aged 24 and with just £2000, and how he has grown the business in three years to a market leader, giving him a personal worth estimated at £40 million.
Our final workshop of 2011 is taking place on Tuesday, 6th December in the City of London. For more information please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org.
