The 2011 SKILL! Programme continued in May, with the second of five workshops taking place in London this year; our 11th workshop since launching in 2008. Produced in association with seven of the leading professional services firms and financial institutions in the City of London, the workshop featured sessions on creative thinking, communication and presentation skills delivered by young social entrepreneur Matt Kepple and former BBC newsreader Katie Ledger. The workshop culminated in a pitching activity featuring a panel of four top entrepreneurs, followed by an inspiring and fast-paced keynote speech from entrepreneur Karen Darby.
The audience of 45 students came from schools across East London, engaging in fundamental skills that will enhance their employability and improve their personal development. Students worked with Team Mentors from our corporate partners, and collaborated to devise a number of outstanding enterprising ideas which they pitch to a panel of entrepreneurs, including:-
- Jim Birtwell - Founder & CEO, Changeboard.com
- Jim Hawker - Co-founder, Threepipe PR
- Michael Hayman - Co-founder, Seven Hills Group
- Lawson Muncaster - Co-founder & Managing Director, City A.M.
Students were inspired by a keynote speech from entrepreneur Karen Darby, who shared her experiences of creating one of the first price comparison websites, SimplySwitch, and selling it for £22 million just a few years later.
Our next workshop is taking place on Tuesday 20 September in Central London. More information will be available online two weeks prior to the workshop. For further details, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
